BALI 2026 SOCIAL IMPACT PLAN

Our Mission
As Day Zero enters Bali, we do so with deep respect for the island, its culture, and the island's philosophy of Tri Hita Karana harmony between people, nature, and spirit.
In our first year, our mission is clear: to operate as a fully accountable, environmentally responsible festival, where every action contributes to the wellbeing of the land and the communities that hold us.
Guided by this philosophy, Day Zero has developed a sustainability and social impact strategy that goes beyond intention delivering real, measurable outcomes across environmental systems, circular economy infrastructure, and long term community impact.
This is not a mere aspiration.
This is our standard and what we embody as a festival from day one.
Initiative 1: “Leave No Trace”
Setting a new benchmark for the festival sustainability: Day Zero Bali implements 100% Recyclability
Day Zero has been designed to operate as a fully circular, zero-landfill festival, where all materials are accounted for and responsibly managed. In Bali, where waste infrastructure remains complex and often fragmented, our approach is intentional: to be part of the solution, not the problem.
Through a structured, source-separated waste system on site, all materials are sorted across key streams:
- Organic waste
- Aluminium
- Paper & cardboard
- Glass
- Plastic
Each stream is collected, processed, and recycled through trusted local recycling partners ensuring that no waste is diverted into landfill, informal dumping systems, or in the natural environment.
Day Zero takes full accountability for its waste footprint, implementing end-to-end systems that prioritise traceability, responsible processing, and environmental integrity.
Initiative 2: Our Plastic-Free Commitment: Delivered Through Reduction, Recovery, and Restoration
Day Zero globally upholds a commitment to operate as a plastic-free festival. In Bali, navigating the realities of a complex waste landscape, our first year festival delivers a 90% reduction in plastic usage, a significant step toward our long term goal of 100% plastic free.
All remaining plastic is captured, recycled, and kept within a circular system through our recycling partner, Prevented Ocean Plastic. To extend this impact beyond reduction, Day Zero activates a large-scale environmental contribution:
“Day Zeros Landmark Clean-Up of Nyang Nyang, Uluwatu’s Most Iconic Beach”
In partnership with Prevented Ocean Plastic and ONE. BALI, this initiative removes plastic directly from the surrounding ecosystem ensuring that the festival not only reduces its footprint and offsets our minimal plastic usage, but directly contributes to restoring the environment that hosts the festival.
Initiative 3: “Day Zero × The Happiness Foundation supporting the launch of the “Happy Place” learning centre for underserved children in Uluwatu / Ungasan”
Day Zero is proud to partner with The Happiness Foundation to support underserved children in the Uluwatu and Ungasan communities.
Through this partnership, we are contributing to the development of “The Happy Place” a new learning centre designed to provide education, nourishment, and opportunity for children in the region.
As part of our Year 1 commitment, Day Zero is supporting:
- The build of a new playground for the children
- The donation of sports equipment
- A fundraiser to further support the build of “The Happy Place”
Creating spaces for movement, joy, and long-term wellbeing.
This is a direct investment into the local community ensuring that the impact of the festival is felt beyond the event itself and into the future generations of the local community.
Initiative 4: From Festival Waste to Value: Empowering Women and supporting the breaking of the generational poverty cycle
In Bali, many young girls grow up within informal waste systems, where collecting and selling materials is a means of survival. Through WWCA, women are given access to education, skills, and pathways toward self-sovereignty and long-term empowerment.
At Day Zero, our waste from the festival is not discarded, we are transforming it into value. By linking environmental action with social impact, Day Zero creates a system where sustainability is not only measured in materials but in lives improved and communities strengthened. All our recyclable materials are processed within a traceable circular system, generating economic value from its recovery.
This initiative supports:
- Pathways out of generational poverty within waste collection communities
- Education and training programmes
- Capacity building and skill development
100% of this value is directed toward supporting the launch of the Women Waste Collectors Association (WWCA) Bali Chapter.
Sustainability & Impact Reporting
Day Zero is committed to full transparency and accountability across its environmental and social impact. All systems implemented across the festival from waste recovery to community initiatives are designed to be measured, tracked, and fully traceable.
Following the festival, Day Zero will publish a comprehensive Sustainability & Impact Report, detailing:
- Environmental performance across all waste streams
- Material recovery and circular processing outcomes
- Social impact delivered through community and partner initiatives
All data will be independently verified and third-party authenticated, ensuring accuracy, integrity, and accountability across all reported outcomes.
